Brainstorm like a billionaire

the thinking methods behind the world's most profitable ideas

Hey Climbers, today —

  • How to brainstorm like a billionaire

  • The rule of opposites will make people obsessed with you

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Brainstorm like a billionaire

I haven’t seen so many white guys in one place since that Machine Gun Kelly gig

Billionaires.

If we’re gonna take em’ down, we’re gonna have to learn to think like them.

Because while they mostly suck as people, what doesn’t suck is their ideas.

A good idea costs you nothing but can make you a billion dollars.

But a billion dollar idea doesn’t just come to you.

As the world’s richest people know: you gotta find it, through brainstorming.

So here are 3 ways to brainstorm like a billionaire, based on some of the best brainstormers of our time.

Bill Gates - Think Weeks

Bill Gates used to take think weeks twice a year where he’d do nothing but sit in a cabin and think for 7 days straight.

I know, sounds boring as hell, but it’s science backed.

When we allow our minds to wander, it activates something in our brain called the Default Mode Network which helps us make unusual associations and organise information to form new ideas. This is why you often have ideas when you’re washing the dishes or having a shower.

But let’s be real. Who has 7 days to think? Rich people, that’s who.

So the next best (and more realistic) thing is to have ‘think mornings’, where you don’t consume any media before midday - including scrolling, podcasts, tv, or reading the news. You let the morning be for creating, rather than consuming.

Steve Jobs - Cross Industry Interests

Steve Jobs was known for his unusual interests outside of the tech industry; calligraphy, yoga, zen meditation, art, music and storytelling.

These interests made the Apple we know today. The diversity of his passions brought us different fonts in Mac computers (calligraphy), their minimalist design (zen) and some of the best advertising ever made (storytelling).

The biggest mistake you can make when trying to solve an industry specific problem is to only consume industry specific information. It makes your inputs the same as everyone else’s, which means you’ll have similar outputs.

True innovation comes from the ability to integrate insights across industries.

Jeff Bezos - The Rule of 100

Bezos reportedly starts to complain to his staff if he goes a week without a brainstorming session.

Bezos brainstorms hard, and often, and puts his thinking success down to ‘The Rule of 100’: being able to imagine 100 different solutions to any given problem, and only one of them being good.

And that’s the thing about brainstorming - You don’t have to have the best ideas, just the most ideas. But most people don’t go past the first thought.

So try these tactics to brainstorm like a billionaire, and let me know how you go. If you come up with any billion dollar ideas you owe me a cut!

CRINGE MOUNTAIN ACADEMY
Danny’s Success Story

Getting these kinds of messages from Cringe Mountain Academy Alumni makes me so, so happy:

What do I have to say?") to help you channel all your strengths into a compelling vision, rather than push gross algorithm hacking or SEO tricks onto you. After working with Erica for 90 days I feel confident in my baseline of content creation skills and (more importantly) in my voice and identify as a creator.” - Danny, founder & creator
