And signs you're stuck at basecamp

Hey Climbers,

Bonjour from France!

A few months ago when I took the leap and quit my 9-5 job, I never could have guessed that it’d mean I’d be able to travel Paris with my friends, riding bikes through the city at sunset and eating too much stinky cheese, all while WORKING FOR MYSELF from my laptop.

Don't get me wrong, the first few months of entrepreneur life has been really fkn hard. And overwhelming. But also affirming.

I know I’ll fail at some point. But I’m looking forward to it. At least I’ll fail forward, and full of comté.

If you’re wondering whether you should do it - whatever “it” is for you - I hope you’re able to take that leap, too. The net really does appear.

Anyway. Today -

CRINGE RADAR
Cringe-related news this week

  • At their annual employee convention, tech company Canva delivered a RAP. Yes. A rap. About how good Canva is. I am obsessed obsessed obsessed

  • Shakira said on Youtube Interview series Hot Ones that there are parts of her old music that made her cringe “so much”. “I think I used to overdo the cries in my voice… I think I’ve evolved,” she said. “I like myself much better now as an artist”.

CRINGE MOUNTAIN

If you still don’t believe me when I tell you that every creator who is now successful has had to climb Cringe Mountain, let me tell you about one of today’s biggest Youtube’s stars.

By the time he had posted 100 videos, he only had 74 subscribers. But 15 years later, he has 18.8 million.

I’m talking about Marques Brownlee, one of the biggest tech reviewers of our time.

This is his first video:

And this is his most recent video:

This is your weekly reminder that big things take big time. You gotta be sucky before you ever get good.

So embrace the cringe, baby. Take that step!

CLIMBER TIP OF THE WEEK
Signs you’re stuck at Cringe Mountain Basecamp

When we have a big scary thing we want to do, our brains are really good at finding activities that help us feel like we’re starting, but in reality are not.

For example, say you want to start making content. The only thing that will move you forward as a content creator is making and posting content.

But instead, you find yourself doing all sorts of things to ‘prepare’, never actually getting around to making and posting the content.

I like to think of these activities as tents at the basecamp of Cringe Mountain.

If we’re not careful we can get stuck camping out in these tents forever, delaying taking the scary first step.

So if you find yourself doing any of the below, ask whether you’re putting off the one activity that will actually move you forward.

Common basecamp tents:

  1. Researching

  2. Needing to buy ‘the right’ equipment

  3. Getting obsessive about whether the work is ‘perfect’

  4. Getting obsessive about your workspace being ‘perfect’

  5. Waiting until you feel ready

  6. Waiting until you have ‘more time’

In Cringe Mountain Academy, I help content creators go from basecamp to breakthrough in 90 days. So if you’d like to either start or continue building something really special with your content, but you’re facing some challenges lacing up your hiking boots, hit the button below.

Ok that’s all for now,

Til next time,

Keep Climbin’

au revoir
